The Chicago Inclusion Project acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council.

Land Acknowledgement

Chicago currently occupies the ancestral homelands of the people of the Council of Three Fires, the Odawa, Potawatomi, and Ojibwe nations. The land that we occupy was also a site of trade, travel, gathering and healing for more than a dozen other Native tribes, including the Menomonee, Michigamea, Miami, Kickapoo, Peoria and Ho-Chunk nations. The name Chicago was stolen from the Algonquin language. We recognize that anything short of returning land to indigenous people is a hollow gesture.

Labor Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the labor of enslaved Africans, who have lived, been subjugated to free labor, and toiled the grounds where many theatres have been built and resurrected. We acknowledge African burial grounds and reject statues and other monuments that desecrate the memories of the enslaved. We honor the labor of Black civil rights leaders and Black theatre artists who worked tirelessly to move our country forward and set the foundation for our work today.
